The Gesu (Gannon) Bulldogs managed to secure the win in their 5:00 matchup, outscoring the Knights of Mater Dei 30-15. The Bulldogs came out hard in the first half, scoring 24 points to Mater Dei’s 9. Point guard #23 Teagan Clark and Kaitlyn Klug let the scoring attack for the Bulldogs combining for 18 points. In the paint the Bulldogs were dominant. Ellie Olack and Megan Gannon combined for 9 rebounds, helping Gesu accumulate 19 rebounds to Mater Dei’s 11 in the first half. For the Knights, #23 Caitlyn McCrone and #22 Rylee Hodge were the sole scorers, putting up 6 and 3 points respectively. McCrone also lead the knights in rebounds with 3 in the half.
The third quarter brought an intense back and forth defensive battle, with Mater Dei managing to outscore the Bulldogs 6-4. Entering the final quarter of play the score stood at 28-15 in favor of Gesu. The fourth quarter once again brought a fierce defensive battle, with the Bulldogs successfully shutting out the Knights and extending their lead to 30 to 15. The Bulldog’s Clark would end the day the leading scorer with 14 points, scoring two thirds of the team’s second half points. Ellie Olack would grab another 9 rebounds for in the second half for a total of 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs. For the Knights, Caitlyn McCrone and #3 Catherine Heckman were the top contributors. McCrone ended the day as the leading point scorer and rebounder for Mater Dei, with 6 points and 8 rebounds earned. Heckman was followed her up with 4 points and 7 rebounds in the game.
